keeping an internet conenction when in standby

Does anyone know how i would beable to keep my broadband internet connection while the computer goes into standby. I want to beable to set the computer into standby while still being connected to msn messenger. I am on ntl 600k internet with a wireless network adaper & router (actiontec)
 
If it functioning normally standby will not disrupt your internet
connection. I would suspect first that your wireless is losing connection
when the computer is idle. I'd check those settings in the router and cards
config.
