Keep Paragraph Style After Hitting Return

I have styles set up for different paragraphs (i.e., numbered items where
first line is Hanging by .05, etc.) When I use them with their CTRL SHFT
short cuts, when I hit return to start a new paragraph, Word reverts the
paragraph back to Normal. I want it to stay in that style until I recode it
for something else.

How do I turn on that feature?

If you click "Format", "Styles and formatting", select the desired Style,
click the dropdown arrow and select "Modify", you will see in the dialog box
the style selected to follow. Change it to the same Style you are using.
This way hitting ENTER continues the same Style. Another option (if you use
this a lot), is to create a custom toolbar and drag your Styles to the
toolbar. Then all you have to do is click the desired icon to change the
Style.

Ctrl-Shift is a manual page break unless you've recoded it. These should be
avoided where possible. Instead use paragraph (style) formatting of page
break before.

The style to follow any particular paragraph style is set in the style
definition. You can modify this. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/styles.htm
