Keep getting "not responding" msg w/large file

After combining 3 Powerpoint presentations full of photos, I'm keep getting
"not responding" msg when I try to open it. The file is 485,000kb. I'm using
AMD Sempron 3000 w/80 gig drive and 1 gig RAM. I'm trying to open the file
from 80 gig external drive. Do I still not have enough RAM or is there
probably another problem?

If it was me.... I'd copy the file from the external drive, to your local
drive c:

I'd then shut down any unnecassary application (including your anti-virus
software)

then I'd try to open the file from drive c:

I'd then either run an 'auto compress picture' addin, or tell myself to put
'lower resolution' pictures in my presentations.
