keep date together

How do I keep a date from splitting at the end of the sentence? I know I'm
supposed to do a hard break, ctrl/shift/space, but where do I put the cursor?
If I put it after December 24, and the year is on the next line, nothing
moves to bring it back together.

Help!!

Delete the existing spaces so that you have December242007, and then put
the nonbreaking spaces in.

I still can't get it to go on one line. Right now it's December 17,
2000. I want it to come together on one line. If I do it the way you say,
I have to put the whole thing on the second line but nothing happens. What
am I donig wrong?

If the entire date is too long for the first line, then of course it will
move as a block to the next line.
