KAV7 will not work with ZoneAlarm why?

Sam

Hi,

I just downloaded the trial of KAV7 but the installer said it cannot
load because ZA is running and recommended that I remove ZA. Why is
this? I could understand it if I were installing the KA Internet
security product because obviously I can't have two firewalls running
at once but I though KAV was anti-virus only so if I remove ZA won't I
have no firewall?

TIA

There are many versions of ZoneAlarm. If you're using the one that includes
antivirus that would explain why KAV7 would not install.

It's just the right thing to do.....

You should dump ZA anyway and try out Comodo Firewall.
And go buy a decent router while your at it.
We would all be more safer if you did.

KAV7 needs to be installed first, so as wilf said.. need to uninstall
ZA, then install KAV, then ZA.

For the average homeuser, the Windows Firewall in XP SP 2 does a fantastic
job at its core mission and is really all you need if you have an
'real-time' anti-virus program, [another firewall on your router or] other
edge protection like SeconfigXP and practise safe-hex.

The windows firewall deals with inbound protection and therefore does not
give you a false sense of security. Best of all, it doesn't implement lots
of nonsense like pretending that outbound traffic needs to be monitored.

Activate and utilize the Win XP SP2 built-in Firewall; Uncheck *all*
Programs and Services under the Exception tab.

Use Windows Firewall in conjunction with:
Seconfig XP 1.0
http://seconfig.sytes.net/
Seconfig XP is able configure Windows not to use TCP/IP as transport
protocol for NetBIOS, SMB and RPC, thus leaving TCP/UDP ports 135, 137-139
and 445 (the most exploited Windows networking weak point) closed.)
OR
Configuring NT-services much more secure.

They claim that it will work if you install KAV 1st than zone alarm. I use
KAV7 and use the free Comodo firewall with great results
