Kaspersky Issue.

Hiya Peoples.
I'm currently running Kaspersky Internet Security 7 on a mashine running
WinXP SP3.
The issue I'm having is, I keep getting a message at the lower bottom
right telling me that I don't have an Antivirus program running, Yet the
Kaspersky icon is sitting rite next to it doing its stuff.
Any ideas?

Aido. :)

Control panel -
Security Center -
(in the resources box on the left)
Change the way Security Center alerts me

I've seen this, on occasions. Windows sometimes doesn't seem to see
that Kaspersky is running. I just turn Kaspersky virus checking off,
and then immediately on again. That usually does the trick.

Yes :). We had this in this article:
http://www.pctipp.ch/praxishilfe/kummerkasten/windowsxp/42126/
windows_erkennt_kaspersky_antivirus_nicht.html

Here's it in English:

1. Log in with Admin rights
2. Go to Start/Run, type services.msc and hit Enter
3. You'll see a list of Windows services
4. Locate the service called Windows Management Instrumentation
5. Right-click on it an select "Stop" or "Stop service"
6. Confirm the dialog about Security center and IP Helper Service with
"Yes" (these services will be restarted, so no worry)
7. Start Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\wbem\
8. In this folder delete the sub-folder called "Repository"
9. Reboot Windows
10. Windows will see that KAV or KIS is running. Enjoy :)

Other than ASCII's solution this will cure the cause of that symptom, not
just the symptom itself. And I suggest you to upgrade to the latest
version of Kaspersky Internet Security [1]. Your existing licence will be
spotted by the setup procedure.

Kind regards from Switzerland

Thank everybody.
ASCII's solution seems to have done the trick.
Thanks for the advice Gabriela, I've saved your reply for future
reference if needed.
Thanks for your input Robin, I've done this, but it still happens from
time to time.

Aido. :)

I haven't seen it recently Aido, but Gabriella's post is one of those
that I've added to my 'XP Tips and Fixes' folder in case it happens
again.

I've saved the post Robin, And I'll look into it when I get around to
it. Saying that though, I've noticed that the Windows warning shield
does disappear about 2 mins after startup. Does this meen that Windows
hasn't yet detected it during startup?

Aido. :)

Windows shouldn't take that long. If it's happening all the time I'd
recommend working your way through Gabriela's instructions.
