Just want to print folder listing.....but apparently cmd is not as
helpful as Linux terminal :(

I have folder full of files with NON-WESTERN file names (Chinese,
Japanese etc) --- How can I print/output the file list SORTED BY
NAME ?

PS: Tried browsing the directory in FireFox but the sort order is not
correct as done by Windows Explorer.
e.g:
20081205-$B?7J9(B-1-10.mp4
comes before
20081205-$B?7J9(B-1-2.mp4

add: Tried "Karen's Print Directory" tool --- it does not seem to
support unicode (sigh)

The sort order is correct. File names are text, not numbers, and 1 comes
before 2. You can work around this problem by modifying the second file,
and any others required to -1-02.mp4.

not according to Windows Explorer

I don't use Japanese characters, but if I create four dummy files with
the names
20081225-xxx-1-02.txt
20081225-xxx-1-2.txt
20081225-xxx-1-3.txt
20081225-xxx-1-10.txt
they show up in Explorer sorted by name as above, which I presume is
what you want.

However, if I display a directory listing from the command prompt, the
order is changed to
20081225-xxx-1-02.txt
20081225-xxx-1-10.txt
20081225-xxx-1-2.txt
20081225-xxx-1-3.txt
which is what I would expect when sorting text column by column.
I'm using Windows XP SP2.

thanks, I guess I will just have to fire up the Linux virtual machine
to do this

1 - Not a option. Need to install software created for W95.
How to Add the Print Directory Feature to Windows Explorerhttp://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q272/6/23.asp

2 - tried that - print out "?" in place of non-western characters

3 - tried that, does not support unicode either.

HOW TO: Add a "Print Directory" Feature for Folders in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q321379

see #2
Add "Log Folder Contents" to the SendTo Menu (Line 112)http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

nothiung personal, sorry
