In the "device manager", under "sound video and games
controllers", there is "MPU-401 compatible midi device".

This was working with windows 98, but now that I've
installed XP, it says that "this device cannot
start" ........

Do I need to update drivers?? Or is there something I can
do with windows to get it working properly.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hi

Go to the sound card manufacturer's website and look for the latest XP compatible drivers

I don't know what the sound cards manufacturer is

How do I find out

The sound is built into the motherboard.

Hi

Go to the mobo/PC manufacturer's website, go to the drivers download page, select the model of your mobo
You should find the sound drivers there

The sound is built into the motherboard.

Download Aida32 or Belarc.. either of these will be able to tell you what is
installed in your computer.. then go to the appropriate site to obtain XP
drivers..
