I use Vista Business since March.
I've got past the annoyances, got rid of the most of them and quite
acquainted myself with the rest (tolerate them).
At this time:
- My Vista is unable to complete the Performance Index test, crashing the
whole system during the Direct3D ALU test, on a reliable video card and
hardware configuration.
- The UAC prompt's "exclusive interfacing" (or whatsitsname, that black
screen when prompting for allowing some program to run) just disrupted my
video capture processes.
- The UAC prompts me to install Microsoft Windows Vista updates, as if _I,
the user_, must know where they come from, in fact, and have to guide it -
the OS-embedded, intelligent, protection mechanism.
- The folder view columns settings in Windows Explorer DO NOT "Apply to all
folders", and even get lost between Explorer sessions on the same folder -
the Media or Music or whatever settings are omnipresent, so I get "Rating"
for DLLs and XMLs.
- The Classic Start Menu's Documents menu gets cleared by itself when it
wants so.

If these were the only problems (most of them relatively easy to get by, I
reckon), and only on my PC, then I could buy a new one tomorrow, but I see
that this forum thrives.

MY CONCLUSION AFTER THESE SIX MONTHS IS THAT, DESPITE THE PUBLICITY, AT
LEAST THIS EDITION OF VISTA IS NOT A PROPERLY _WORKING_ (well-built,
perhaps, but NOT RELIABLE for continuous use) OPERATING SYSTEM FOR A USER
WITH HIGH DEMANDS _AND_ NO INTENTION TO CUDDLE AND EFFECTIVELY _MAINTAIN (as
in GUIDE, OUTMANEUVER, OUTSMART etc.)_ IT.
I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME NOR WILL TO HUNT ALL OVER THE INTERNET FOR TUTORIALS
ON HOW TO ACCOMPLISH SIMPLE THINGS ON VISTA. IT SHOULD BE ALL IN THE HELP
SYSTEM. WHICH IT ISN'T.

MICROSOFT, I MEAN - COME ON !!!!

AND PLEASE, KEEP THE PUBLICITY DOWN FOR A WHILE - LET'S SAY UNTIL YOU FEEL
CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO _TEST AND RELEASE_ SERVICE PACK 1.
I THINK THAT WITH THIS OPERATING SYSTEM, RELEASED IN THIS SEEMINGLY BETA
STATE, YOU EITHER DO NOT KNOW HOW, OR CAN NOT, RUN A PLANETARY CORPORATION
WITH THE WILL TO SURVIVE ITS FAME.

Before bothering to use bad language on me, mind you that I remain on Vista.
And with Windows 2000 as failsafe, for that matter. And I run licensed and
expensive Microsoft software on 4 computers. So I'm NOT bashing Microsoft
just for the kicks, or knowing not what should I do with their software, and
how it should behave. Wakey-wakey, Microsoft ?

If you wish all the Direct X deliciousness, you will need either Home Premium
or Ultimate edition of Vista. (Not to mentions a smokin' hot video card, as
opposed to a "reliable" video card.)

Business edition is not geared to multimedia. I think the different edition
names make it abundantly clear.

Try meditation.

I do software development, not game tournaments. "Reliable" would have to
do. It managed on 2000 and XP.

Not true.

Maybe.

names make it abundantly clear.

The only major thing that Home Premium has that
the Business version doesn't is Media Center. The only
things that Ultimate has that Business doesn't is Bitlocker
and Media Center. "Direct X deliciousness" is in the
Business version.
Try meditation.

Try getting your facts straight.

*nod*. One of the reasons I have liked Windows vs Linux is the fact
that I can use it without doing all sorts of odd command line work-
around and multi-step tutorials on how to fix problems. Well, that was
one of the reasons I used to like Windows.

Yeah. It's just so hard to learn new things. Looking for online tutorials
because I am unable to read instructions or help files.

What part of "New" confused you? You expected status quo?

"I want change that's exactly the same as before"- how stupid is that? If
it's so upsetting, STAY WITH XP! Or better stick with the one-button mouse'd
Macs. They are designed for the easily confused.
