Junk e-mail options

When I receive mail in my junk folder that is spam, I do the following.
Highlite it and send it to the blocked senders junk mail file and then move
it into the delete file.
Somewhere along the way I notice the "closed envelope" icon opens, as it
does when I receive mail that I want to read and do.
My question is, am I doing the deleting of junk mail process correctly or am
I opening up the posibility of infecting my system with a virus?

What I do is, check the junk folder for false positives, if there are any I
click on the not junk mail and then click "not junk" button. Then I go to
the Junk E Mail folder, right click on it, select Empty Junk Email folder.
I do the same with the Deleted Items folder. Never have to touch a spam
that way.
