JPG saved as BMP

When I download a JPG picture and attempt to save it, XP
only shows BMP files as an option. I've read previous
postings of others who have had the same problem and I've
tried the suggestions that were given, including deleting
the internet files. I've read the MS articles
concerning "JPG files saved as BMP". I am able to save the
downloaded JPG pictures as JPG files if I use one of
the "tricks" suggested, such as typing ".JPG" in the save
as box. I just want to be able to download JPG pictures as
JPG files without using these tricks. Does anyone have any
additional ideas that I might try?

I had the same problem and the fix that I found was to
clean up/delete the internet cache file in IE Version 6.
I beleive the problem is specific to version 6.
