Try decreasing the size of the images in an image editor before you insert
them into PPT.

See http://www.awesomebackgrounds.com/powerpointgraphics.htm

and

What's all this about DPI and INCHES and RESOLUTION?

and

What's the best resolution for images in PowerPoint screen shows?

After they're edited to size, use Insert/Picture/From File to get them into
PPT. Don't copy/paste them in.

Try Echo's suggestions first. If that doesn't help, try saving from the
scanner software to a different file format (try something very vanilla like
BMP, for example).

And if THAT doesn't work, Echo will come back and suggest lowering your
hardware acceleration.
