JPEG: No preview available and can't change attributes

Hello,

I have uploaded some JPEG files from a digital camera to my hard drive. I
was able to rename, copy, delete, and move the files, as well as change
attributes files and preview the image in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
Then, for some reason, I could not change these files and I could not preview
them with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer any more. The message says “No
preview availableâ€. I am unable to change the attributes on the files and I
receive “An error occurred applying attributes to the file. Access deniedâ€
error message when trying to apply changes to the attributes.

What has happen? How can I recover these files and be able to change the
attributes? I have copied these files to an external USB storage device.
Could this be the problem?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Paul

Paul,

Sounds like a NTFS permissions issue, which is causing both the problems. Verify the Permissions/Ownership assigned for that folder. Check if there are any "special permissions" assigned also.

Thank you. I was able to sovle the problem Safe Mode. However, when I login
with an account with administrator permissions in Normal mode, the security
tab does not appear on the file Properties dialog. I am using Windows XP Home
Edition. Do you know why this is? How can I get security tab to show?
