I am running Windows XP Pro on my computer right now and
I,m having a problem when downloading JPEG images off the
internet. When I download an image and save it to disk,
it saves without an extention. I have to type the
extention manually. I,ve ran every Windows Update up to
date. I even wiped out my system and started over from
scratch. Nothing seems to remedy the problem. If there's
anybody that can help me on this problem, it would be
greatly appreciated.

I ran into a similar problem, where every picture I saved
would end up as a GIF no matter what. Microsfot's
recommendation was to simply clear out my temporary
internet files and reset the browser windows and voila,
it worked.

Empty your Temporary Internet Files. Open IE/click Tools/click
Internet Options/click the General tab/click Delete Files/check Delete offline
content (if you so desire)/OK/click OK/click Delete Cookies (If you so desire,
up to you)/click OK/click OK If you don't empty these out once in a while, the
old bucket gets pretty darn full.
Hope this helps. Let us know.
Wes

Also, make sure that "hide extensions from known file types"
is unchecked in tools/folder options Windows Explorer.

Start - Run - regedit.exe

Open to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\database\
Content type\image/jpeg
and highlight. In the right pane double click Extension and set to
..jpg
If the Extension line does not show, or the image/jpeg is missing, Make
the following, after - - start and before - - end into a file by
cut/paste to NotePad. [HKEY through jpeg] or Bits] is in each case all
one line; then "something"= starts new ones. Make sure there is a
blank line at the end. Save as "Patch.reg" then right-click on this file
and take Merge to enter it into the registry.

- - start
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg]
"AutoplayContentTypeHandler"="PicturesContentHandler"
"CLSID"="{25336920-03F9-11cf-8FD0-00AA00686F13}"
"Extension"=".jpg"
"Image Filter CLSID"="{607fd4e8-0a03-11d1-ab1d-00c04fc9b304}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg\Bits]
"0"=hex:02,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,d8

- - end

Thanks Alex Nichol. The regedit idea worked. Hopefully,
it'll stay that way.
