Jonathan,
Messenger 6.0 won't install. Here's what happens:

- I start the install and get the "Welcome to Messenger
6.0 Setup" dialog box. >NEXT
- I accept the Licence Agreement. >NEXT
- A message box pops up "MSN Messenger was not installed.
Installation was interrupted. No changes were made to the
computer. Click on the Finish button to close the wizard."
- a message box pops up "Messenger setup has failed with
error 1603. Go to the website to download the sofwtare"

Going to the website (where I went in the first place)
puts you into an endless cycle of downloading the app,
installation failure, downloading the app, etc.

Your expert opinion on this?

Thx - JT

Greetings JT,

The 1603 error can basically mean anything, although here are some things to try.

Click Start, then Run, type:
%windir%\WinSxS
and then click OK.

The rename the "InstallTemp" folder to "InstallTemp2" (if it exists), then move the:
"x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_212f7d9e" and
"x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.RtcDll_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_b168a28c"
folders to the Recycle Bin.

Then try the installation again. If you still have problems, click Start, then Run, enter
"cleanmgr.exe" and click OK. Choose your primary Windows drive, and let it scan. After it's
completely scanning, uncheck all the options except for 'Temporary Files', then click OK,
confirm the operation and allow it to remove the 'temporary files'.

Finally, click Start, then Run, enter "sfc /scannow" and click OK. After this is completely,
try the installation again.
