joining w2k pro to nt4 domain

Hi,

I have purchased 2 new computers with
w2k pro sp4 + our SOE installed.
once I try to join the domain I got the following error

The following error occurred validating the name "domain". The specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

I did a search on the web and MS KB and only told me to make sure to enable
NetBIOS over TCP/IP and I always got this enable.
and also told me I have problem with my DNS servers. But I have been using
the existing NT4 domain without any DNS for years and
had no problem at all when joining WS to domain.

I am able to get the 2 PCs join to the domain by using DHCP, when I change
it back to static IP+WINS, it's not working anymore.
my DHCP scope is just a really simple one with something like to assign WINS
and default gateway and that's all ...

anyone can help me ?

Hello Steven

Maybe it is something related to the name browser problem. Try include the
PDC name and IP address in the W2kpro's lmhosts file.
You may refer to this KB to edit the lmhosts file:
