joining 2003 domain

Hi,

Sometimes I cannot join a 2003 domain using its netbios name, but i can
always with the fqdn of the domain. It's not a problem but why would it
happen. My WINS servers are on a different domain of which my 2003 DC's
point to. I dont run wins on my 2003 domain.

If you're attempting to use a NETBIOS name you would need something that
could resolve it. In the case of your domain you would need to be
pointing to a WINS server that had the NETBIOS records for the domain in
order to resolve it.
