Joing domain accross router

Can anyone help with this......

I'm trying to join a window 2000 Domain with an XP Pro client, through a
router (wireless, but that should not matter)

Router is supplying IP address,

Server is DNS,

I can ping the server from client (both by IP address and by DNS name)

When joining domain, I get to the point where account with authority has to
log on. Then I get an error saying the server cannot complete the task, no
error numbers.

I have not completed a reverse look up for DNS, do I have to?

I enabled WINS on server, made no difference.

Any thoughts?

The first thing to do is check the event logs on both the server and the
client to find out if there is a specific error event being generated.

put server-ip and AD domain entries in the XP client's lmhosts file.
