Hi, On Windows XP: I had a Workgroup login with stuff in
MyDocuments and on the desktop. It was an administrative
account.
In this account I joined my domain at work. In doing
this, when I rebooted it set up a new User Profile,
called "cz" with new desktop and new "My Documents"
folder.
I can still see my old profile, called "Charles" on the
hard disk, but I can't log into it!

How do I get the new domain login to inherit my old
settings and My Docuements folder? Did I miss something
in the setup? (I followed the Microsoft article to the
letter). CJZ

You can log on to the computer locally (i.e choose "this
computer" from the log on window) to log back in to your
previous account.

Alternatively, you can go into "my computer"/ C:/
documents and settings/ your old user account/ copy and
paste the contents of the desktop and "my Documents
folders into the corresponding folders of your new user
account.
The only problem you may come across with this is
permissions. It may need a bit of tweaking to allow you
to copy from one user and paste (write) into another.

It may also be possible (depending on what work you have
done so far) to use the "file transfer wizard"
(start/programs/accessories/system tools/ file and
settings transfer wizard)

If you domain profile is local and not roaming, you can use system
properties to copy your local profile to the new domain profile. You'll
need a second local admin account to do this.

"How do I leave my network domain?"
Try: Clcik on start, control panel, user accounts, click on "change the
way users log on or off" and click on "use welcome screen"

You don't create a domain with a Windows XP Pro system. You can JOIN a
domain with one, but a domain requires a Server operating system (Windows NT
Server, Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003) to establish the domain.
