Jel on CPU mount

I have to mount a 2.2 GHZ CPU on a replacement Intel motherboard. Is
it necessary or recommended to apply a heat transfer jel to the
contact surface when installing.

Did the heatsink come with a pad? If so, that is probably sufficient. If it
didn't, or if it has been used before, then remove the old pad/compound and
use a THIN coat of heat sink compound.
