Jealous FP?

I just bought FP2003 and thought that this odd behavior would end but...it's
still here.

THE PROBLEM:
If I upload a file or files to my web from another computer or by FTP from
the same computer where my FP resides, Front Page decides it doesn't like
the files I uploaded and wants to do it AGAIN....even though they are
exactly the same files.

For example in my new FP2003, they have blue ? question marks and a box
opens up and shows me a bunch of files that are in "conflict". WHAT
conflict? Neither the files on my local web or remote have been changed. In
my case many of these files are HUGE audio files.

It's like FP wants to be my ONLY source for uploading to my web.

That's because FP keeps track of what has been published. So if you publish from machine B,
FrontPage on machine A doesn't know it and prompts you about it. It's actually for your own
protection.

FrontPage is a web management program, so it does want to be the only source
for uploading to your web.
In the case of large binary files, if your host supports subwebs make a sub
web in both your local and remote webs, and place the files in the subweb,
then continue to use FTP to upload them to the subweb in the remote site.
FrontPage will not worry about FTP being used in the subweb as long as you
do not try to publish it. Do not open the remote subweb in FrontPage.

Followup....
Someone said...it is for my own protection....but THAT is part of the
problem. Too many software writers..Microsoft is the worst...want to "take
care of me". I don't WANT or NEED them to watch out for my own carelessness
or stupidity. I wnat to be able to choose my own options. More and more
everyting is automated...like auto-complete. I don't WANT that.

In my case I am on the road a lot so I have to upload pages and files from
my laptop. I don't want FP telling me I have to upload ALL my files again. I
think thats bad design.

Then you need to either work directly on the remote/live site or you need to open the remote/live
site and then publish to your PC, then make your changes, then re-publish back to the remote/live
site.
