javascript problem

This relates to a script error message that appears
whenever I attempt to access a sound file or online feed
from the www.npr.org Web site. NPR uses javascript to
initiate the playing of its sound files and feeds:
javascript:getProgramStream()
javascript:getNewsCast()
javascript:GetMedia('WESUN', '07-Mar-2004',
2, 'WM,RM');

The problem, whatever it is, prevents me from listening
online.
A typical error message would be:
Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being
displayed properly or functioning properly.
Line: 310
Char: 5
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://www.npr.org/
My OS is WinXP (Home Ed.) and my browser is IE-6.0.2800.
In security options, all forms of scripting from NPR
sites are enabled.
Cookies from the NPR Web site are enabled.
The problem persists whether my pop-up blocker is on or
off, whether my Symantec firewall is on or off, and
whether script de-bugging is on or off.
I'm not using any other Web content filters.
The error messages keep coming even after I've emptied
the cache and re-booted.

A Google news group search for the terms "npr+javascript"
or "npr+getmedia" will show that this is not a unique
problem. A number of fixes have been suggested, but none
of them have worked for me. Any ideas posted to this news
group will be appreciated. -- Murray

Java and JavaScript are not related.

You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/default.asp?contentid=28001169
or
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

Thanks to Donald and Frank for your suggestions. I've
followed up on all of them, and the problem persists. As
I mentioned, others are having the same problem. I've e-
mailed the NPR Web master, but so far no response.

Thanks, Frank. I've emptied my Internet cache and re-
booted, but without effect. I'm now working with NPR to
figure out a solution. If they solve the puzzle, I'll
post the answer.

I've solved the problem identified in my original post,
and I want to share the solution just in case someone
else runs into the same thing.

The NPR audio feed was being blocked by an entry in a
Hosts file I downloaded from
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

In spite of the difficulty I've had, this is a useful
file, and it's free. It blocks numerous ads and spyware
intrusions, and it's frequently updated. But somewhere in
its many hundreds of entries there's a line relating to a
tracking process associated with NPR audio links. If I
could determine which entry is causing the problem, I
could simply edit it out. But there are too many
possibilities. Instead, when I want to access NPR audio I
disable the new Hosts file and restore the Win XP default
file. Then the NPR javascript links work without a
problem. Afterward, I switch back to the new Hosts file
and continue blocking out the garbage. (The file comes
with a small program that makes it a one-click operation
to switch back and forth.)
