Javascript links not working

T

Trevor Appleton

Further to previous postings re some websites not working on my PC, it
appears to me that the ones that don't work are javascript links.

On the sun javescript website, the verify link says that I have the current
version installed.

Is there some other setting I need to change?

Java and JavaScript are not related. Sun is a Java web site.

O right. So any thoughts why the links won't work?

Is active scripting enabled in your browser?
Do you have some sort of security program installed, such as NIS?

Try this :
Open internet Options
Security tab
Select Internet then click "Default Level" button
Select Restricted Sites > Click Sites button and remove all the sites > Click OK
Go to Advanced tab > Click Restore defaults
Click OK > Restart IE

The default level buton is greyed out.

Are you updating from your Java control panel, update tab..?
Using Java 2 platform SE ver 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_09-b03)...?
Make sure under network settings you check "use browser settings"

I wasn't I was doing it from the website. I have used the java icon in
control panel and the update option says I have the latest version. The
network settings is set to use browser settings.

Why aren't you posting to a newsgroup for your browser? If it's IE, as I
suggested in your other threads, post to the internet explorer newsgroup.

Have tried many of these but no luck. I think a reinstall of XP is going to
be the only way.

Current problems:

1. Cant see many links especially JavaScript links.

2. Can't listen to 'Listen Again' Radio programmes from BBC.co.uk.

3. Can't access my bank.

4. Can't install google pop up blocker.

5. In the search facility I get a wagging tailed dog and a blank screen

6. In the Windows help I get a blank page.

....and I'm sure I've forgotten a few!

6. In the Windows help I get a blank page.

No content in the search menu.

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll

Can't help with memory problems.. that's a hardware issue. ;o)

Sounds like what can happen when using a registry cleaner, if recent, use
system restore, see if you can restore to an earlier date when all was
well..

Unfortunately not an option. When I used this PC in England for a couple of
years I only did a few very basic things with it. I have now brought it to
France where it has become my only PC. Someone originally gave me it 2 years
ago, so I don't know when if ever it worked fine. Think I feel an XP re
install coming on.
