javascript fails IE6 on XP SP2

Friend's HP running XP SP2 no longer displays or delivers
javascripts in web pages. From webmail apps to simple
browser checks, I cannot get any javascripting to work. I
even installed other browsers in an attempt to isolate
the issue - ALL of them failed javascript.

Any suggestions? Where can I find JS controls/keys on
this machine?
