Javascript buttons

Mike

Please will someone help with this it is driving me nuts.
I run IE6 with XP pro. Javascript buttons just do not
work. Or should I say for a couple of days they decide to
work and then they decide not to work for a couple of
weeks and then all of a sudden for no apparent action on
may part they will work for a day before failing again.
They seem to have a mind of their own. At the moment they
are not working and I have noticed many people in this
forum with the same problems. Things I have tried are
listed below.

Updated the script engine
Reinstalled IE6. (This fixed it for a short period)
Registered all the usual DLLs
Checked all the settings in IE options under Java
Checked the security levels in the various zones to make
sure scripting, activeX and accessing across domains etc
are all enabled.
Disabled firewall and virus checker (Norton) and tried
again

I am sure many other problems listed on this forum are
all linked in some way to the same problem. It needs
someone out there who really knows their stuff to figure
it out. Sorry if this is a bit long winded.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Also are there any other users out there experiencing the
same problem and use Norton Internet Security.

Thanks for all help and suggestions in advance

Mike

Hi Mike - Try checking out things here and report back on your findings
in this same thread, please:

You can test whether Java is working on your machine at the following
sites:

http://www.pocoso.de/pocoso052.html
http://www.clan.lib.ri.us/clan/javatest.html
http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp (both 1.0 and 1.1 and what's
installed)
http://coglab.wadsworth.com/support/browsercheck.html
http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html

and you can test Javascript here:
http://www.dancespots.net/browsertest.htm

and check whether you have the MS VM installed and which version here:

OK, Mike - I don't know if this will fix your problem, but try
installing this latest version of Windows Scripting 5.6 at this link:

http://microsoft.com/downloads/deta...F6-249C-4A72-BFCF-FC6AF26DC390&displaylang=en

This new package of Windows Scripting 5.6 has version 6626 of
dispex.dll. The previous package had version 8515 of
dispex.dll. During installation if you're asked whether you want to
overwrite a newer version dispex.dll with an older
one - click Yes. (I suspect that it also has some other bug fixes as
well, since it fixes some other problems not related to that .dll.)
(You might also want to try FIRST re-installing 818529, here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/818529/default.asp)

See if that helps.

Thanks for sticking with this. Ihave tried both
suggestions in your previous post but the problem is
still there. I am wondering if it could have something to
do with Norton Internet security although with this
completely disabled I still have the problem

OK, Mike - that's a possibility. Try un-installing NIS (and NAV if you
have that), then re-installing 818529 and see if that fixes it. If so,
then you can try re-installing NIS (and NAV) and see if it stays fixed.
Symantec software is noted for causing install and other problems
particularly with system software, but I haven't yet had your problem
reported in conjunction with it. Worth a try though
