i have tried and tried to view some websites that have scrolling pictures
(ie colleges etc) but am constantly informed by my computer that i have to
have java installed before i can see these. now i cant access an online
help chat because i dont have java. i have downloaded and installed java at
least three times, i have checked in my browser options and still dont know
how to set the darned thing up. would you please advise me???? thank you.

From where did you download Java; perhaps that is the issue.

Microsoft is no longer supporting its Java Virtual Machine because of a
lawsuit with Sun. Have you tried the Java website:
www.java.com. If you downloaded from there, you might want to check the
help, support and FAQs at that website. Also, be sure to clear IE's cache
before checking the websites you've already visited as follows: Open IE, go
to Tools, select Internet Options, on the General tab, click Delete Cookies,
Delete Files and accept the option to delete all offline content and Clear
History.

The issue may be with the specific sites, here's a site where you can run a
test of Java implementation on your system:

Something else to check, if you are running any firewalls, antivirus or
other security software, make sure it hasn't disabled Java on your system;
you'll need to check the application's options.
