While looking through "Add-Remove programs" I noticed that I have quite a few
versions of Java runtime installed. I have:-
J2SE runtime environment 5
JAVA2 runtime environment 1.4._02,; _04; _05

Do I need all of these or should I uninstall some of them?

yes you should remove them and only keep the latest one
which i believe is 05 all else can be remove
