Hello Andrew,

Did you get your dose of updates from the MS Windows Update website?
This is the first thing you should do, before even get yourself some extra coffee.

Java is a programming language which can do a lot of nice things and it's used widely in applications and websites.

When checking in on the MS Windows Update website, check if there's an update for a Virtual Machine, Microsoft Virtual Machine.
You could also get a Java Virtual Machine from the website of Sun, http://java.sun.com

But I encourage you to get all the essential updates from the Windows Update website.

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft was not allowed to provide its own Java Virtual
Machine to Windows XP users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the wider website
compatibility of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, one of which is here:
http://www.virtualmachine.tk/.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.

You need a Java Virtual Machine. Get one free at
http://java.sun.com/getjava

Java is a programming language. Programmers at your family tree site
have written a Java applet that can run in any browser on any platform
as long as a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is installed.
