i am trying to find out how to get the latest version of
jvm but windows update say that there are no updates
needed. help please, if you can

To verify your version, go to Start/Run and type in: wjview

MS JVM Version 3809

MS JVM Version 3810

Once 3809 is installed you can get the Update 3810 - 816093 or use the link
above: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816093

If this is not the issue:
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 msjava.dll
