Java RunTime

On one particular VERY favourite website I am unable to
view the screens I NEED to see. When I enter the HELP
Menue this is the information provided:

If you are having trouble viewing the Live Timing System
you may find the following information useful:
Q: I can't see the Live Timing System on the page. I just
get an empty outlined box.
A: The Live Timing System is a Java Applet. You will need
to have the Java Runtime installed for your browser to
display the page correctly. Run your Browser Setup
program and install the Java environment.

I cannot find where the Java files are on my pc (recently
upgraded to Windows XP from Windows98) In my old system,
this worked perfectly - now in XP it doesn't work at all.
I have attempted to download Java from Microsoft website
but it will not "activate" and I cannot view the Live
Timing Website that I MUST have access to.

I have tried to contact Microsoft Support but just
keeping getting bounced around in circles because my
Windows XP PID has the letters "OEM" in it,and the
support centre says I must refer to the manufacturer for
help - which makes absolutely no sense at all - where
else could we purchase Windows XP except from Microsoft?

I have been at this for over two weeks now, and as you
may be able to tell, am getting extremely frustrated. I
just want to be able to view my favourite website!
