Java Problems

I am having problems with my Java Virtual Machine. When I attempt to
run an executable .jar file, I get the error "could not find the main
class" and the installation fails. I recieved the same error upon
attempting to open the Java control panel applet. I uninstalled and
reinstalled Java and was able to access the control panel applet but I
still receive the error when I try to execute the .jar file.
Additionally, after reinstalling Java, I cannot install Firefox
extensions. The .xpi seems to execute properly but the extensions fail
to appear in mu extension manager. I have poured over the forums but
have not found any solutions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Who's Java are you using, Microsoft or Sun and what version?
