Java problems?

Im running Windows XP on my computer. When I go to certain web sites I click
on buttons and nothing happens. Very few websites are affected. I downloaded
the latest Java program and that didn't help. I also ran a program suggested
by self help on Microsofts site. Click on "Run" typed some words in it and
ran it. Restarted computer and no luck. Need some feed back for this
problem...Frank
PS I disabled pop up blocker, nortons anti virus and Internet Security.

MS Java VM was prohibited by a court decision. If you lack the MS Java, the MS update site will refuse to give you an update for it.

I have downloaded 1.5 update, it didn't help. Yhats what I was supposed to do

Pictures do not appear as expected, or you receive an error message when you open an HTML file on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-b:
