Java problems

I've installed the latest version of Java from Sun on an XP Pro machine and
now Java applets won't run in Internet Explorer. Every time I go to a web
page with Java Applets I get a message in the page saying I need to download
the Java plugin and points me to Sun's web page. Any ideas?

Had you been using Sun's Java previously, or were you
using MS's Virtual Machine?

In IE tools/Internet Options/Advanced, is MS VM's Just-In-
Time compiler checked?
