Java problem - What setting do I need to change?

I can't get Java to run in my IE browser but it runs fine in Netscape.

The use Java 2 box in the IE advanced settings tab is checked.

If I go the Java demo pages and try to run something I get the following
error.

alt="Your browser understands the <APPLET> tag but isn't running the applet,
for some reason." Your browser is completely ignoring the <APPLET> tag! ...

Does anyone know what I need to change to get Java to run properly? Is it a
permissions setting somewhere?

Hi,
In Internet Options> Advanced, try these settings:
Microsoft VM
Java console enabled... uncheck
Java logging enabled... uncheck
JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled... uncheck

And, of course, Java (Sun)... checked

Or, you might take a look at the Security tab> Internet zone. You might be
blocking Java applets.

Where is the "Java (sun)" box to be checked? Oh and I
have the Microsoft VM thing, why doesnt any other
computer have that in the advanced tab?

I am not seeing anything regarding Microsoft VM on the Options>Advanced tab.

On the Security >Internet zone, the only thing I can find is scriptiong of
java applets which is enabled.

What am I missing? I think I am blocking Java or restricting it somewhere
as a test game from Microsoft that I ran worked fine (I forgot the URL)

I forgot about XP. If you're using Windows XP, you probably don't have the
Microsoft VM options in Internet Options.

In that case, take a look at other programs (anti-virus or other security
programs) which may be blocking Java applets. Or try placing troublesome
sites in the Trusted Sites zone- Internet Options> Security.

Have you reinstalled Java or looked for an update?

Something at one of these sites may help:
