Java help

I keep trying to download java runtime enviorment and virtual machine because
i cant play any yahoo or pogo games. When its almost done installing it says
i already have a version installed to uninstall the other one first. When i
go into add and remove i go to java and pick it and some reason i can not
uninstall it. Any help will be much appriciated. Thanx
