Java does not work

L

Latosha Washington

I downloaded and installed and enabled the current version from Sun, but my
IE does not want to seem to run Java. I typically get the little red X in a
frame space when browsing a page with Java.

In Tools security settings, I have Java VM permissions set to medium safety.
In Advanced, I have Java Sun and MS VM boxes checked.

Ideas?
Thanks.

Hi,
A number of third-party security/privacy/ ad-blocking programs can block
Java as scripts, scripting, active content. Check the settings of any
programs of that type. Look at firewalls, anti-virus, ad-blockers, etc.

You might try unchecking the MS VM box.

Clearing the Java cache may help. Control Panel> Java Plug-in> Cache.

Hope this helps,
Don

Don,

I'm having the same problem as Latosha. I turned off my firewall and
antivirus and the problem continues. I also turned off MS VM in the
security tab and it didn't help.

I have the latest Java runtime (1.5) installed.

As a workaround, I tried Mozilla Firefox, with the firewall and
antivirus running, and it worked fine. So the firewall and antivirus
are not the problem.

I have popup blocker turned off in IE.

This is definitely some type of IE/Java issue.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Brooks

Thanks Don but that doesn't really help. Funny thing is, SOMETIMES Java
seems to work, but more often than not it won't launch in the browser.
