I disabled in "options->security->internet->Scripting of Java Applets"
and also in "options->advanced->Use Java 2...<applet> (requires
restart)". Then I restarted my PC, went to yahoo games and was able to
open applets. Gee, that's strange...

In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Security tab...Custom, scroll down to
the JavaVM/Java Permissions section and select the Disable Java radio
button, click Okay.

I have no such section in the Security tab. I looked at the entire list
and there's only one Java-related item and it's "Scripting of Java
Applets" which I had already disabled. In the Advanced tab there is
only "Use Java 2...<applet> (requires restart)" and I had that disabled
too.

It is there . Just a bit above from what you describe. It is under Java VM and Java Permissions

I have absolutely nothing of this sort - not under the Security nor
Advanced tabs.
My IE version is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

I think that the others are describing MS Java settings.
Looks like you only have Sun Java installed?
Then you should be looking for support on a Sun site.

FWIW I don't see any way to completely disable it than to completely
remove all traces of it. The closest I have to such a control is a checkmark
in the Internet Options, Advanced tab
Use JRE 1.5.0_02 for <applet> (requires restart)

Hmm... look in the Control Panel's Java applet,
on the Java tab. Besides the Java <applet> control,
which I assume the previously mentioned checkbox controls,
there is one for Java Application Runtime Settings.
There is a checkbox under Enabled for it too.
Do you have that unchecked too?

As I said, I think that you are likely to find better assistance
on a Sun forum. There are obviously even more possible
options using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs tool
or the Internet Options, Object Viewer. Have you tried experimenting
with all of those too?

Good luck

First, Java and Java Script are not related. Are you sure which you mean?

Test Java: http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp
Java VM: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm#java2
Understand that because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java
support recommends that you use the Sun JRE.

Sorry, there's no Microsoft VM anywhere either.
As I've written before:

"I have no such section in the Security tab. I looked at the entire

Applets" which I had already disabled. In the Advanced tab there is
only "Use Java 2...<applet> (requires restart)" and I had that disabled

too."

All of this is pathetic. If I want to disable Javascript, I check the
radio button and javascript is disabled. Similarly I should be able to
disable JAVA if there's a radio button for it that explicitly says
"Disable scripting of Java Applets".

Yes i did and I replied to you about that. You had said:

Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll down and uncheck everything under Microsoft VM and/or Sun Java.

And I replied:
Sorry, there's no Microsoft VM anywhere either.
