Java disabled but working!

I have "scripting of Java applet" disabled in my security settings. However
a security site indicated java was enabled. I confirmed this by opening a
web page with a simple "Hello World" java applet. I also tried opening the
same web page using Netscape 6.2 which had java disabled. In Netscape
disabling java worked.

I previously removed a supposedly damaged java object frm the IE objects
list.

I'm using win 98 & install all security patches promptly.

You disabled scripting of Java applets. You didn't disable all Java. Go to
Tools | Internet Options | Advanced and uncheck everything for Java (Sun)
and Microsoft VM.

Thanks Frank. I had my Microsoft VM JIT compiler enabled. I don't believe
there's a seperate setting for Sun Java.
