Java and XP Home (or XP Home and Java)

I'm having problems trying to get a Java Runtime package from Sun
Microsystems to install properly on my XP Home system.

It's something I need for work - checking a website that runs a Java based
live data-stream. I can successfully log on to the site and view the live
data on my old ME based PC but not on my (relatively) new XP PC.

The site directs me to the Sun MS Java site to download a package that
should enable my XP machine to view the data-stream, but, having downloaded
the package, I first of all have a problem install it (there's an error
message every time) and once I do seem to have it installed, I still cannot
view the data.

The package is called "j2re-1 4 2 04-windows-i586-p. Anyone got any ideas -
or alternatives?

Cheers,
Probert.

Top posting to save anyone the effort!

It's typical isn't it? I've bee nwrestling with this all week and ten
minutes after I posted my request for help, I managed to get the thing
working properly! (The answer - for anyone's future reference - appears to
be to not just disable Norton AV2004 but to shut the whole anti-virus
program down entirely through Task Manager.)

Cheers,
Probert.

If you want, you can download the old Microsoft package that Microsoft
is not legally allowed to distribute unless you are upgrading the old
package.

http://home.ix.netcom.com/~jmrubin/msjvm.htm

redirects to the long download.windowsupdate.com URL for what I
believe is the last Microsoft version of the Java Virtual Machine.
