Hello,

When visiting certain public sites, I get this small window telling me that
a JAR file is being downloaded with a rapidly progressing progress bar. I
quickly close the window. Any idea what is that?

Thanks,

Erik

JAR = Java ARchive

Sounds like you are visiting sites that want to run a Java applets.
Java applets run locally; i.e., you'll see a message in the browser's
status bar noting the applet download. They download to your host and
execute from there. Of course, you didn't bother to mention these
"certain public sites" so my supposition cannot be verified.

Note:

don't assist spammers even regarding non-spam issues.
