Japanese Windows 98 with strange characters

Hello...Just wondering if someone has a solution to my problem. I'm trying
to fix my coworker's laptop. The problem is that certain buttons/characters
(ex. minimize, maximize, close buttons, etc.) are of a different character.
I've tried updating Windows via Windows Update, tried using those Optimizer
downloads from CNET.download.com and it doesn't seem to fix it. Anyone out
there can help me?

I'm sure someone does - if you posted in the RIGHT PLACE. This is, as you
obviously failed to notice, a Windows XP group. Why are you posting here and
not to a 98 group?
