I want to write emails in Japanese. I was told Windows
XP supports Japanese and can be used for reading and
writing Japanese. Does anyone know how to set it up?

Maybe you can read/write Japanese.

I did a search on Microsoft's support web site
(http://support.microsoft.com) for the words "xp japanese" and found

For NT, all we did was add the Japanese fonts and that enabled us to see
the Japanese characters in emails. We didn't try to write in Japanese
as we didn't know the langauge. But the above reference seems to
address the issue for you.
