January 8 Vista updates NOT INSTALLING. Help

N

Nick

Hi: I have a Lenovo t61p with Vista32 business and to date all updates have
installed without any problem. The pack from Jan 8th keeps failing and it is
extremely bothersome. Vista reboots up to 3 times in a row, tries to install
automatically, and fails. It's happened for the last 4 days. Help please!

I called IBM and they are pushing back on supporting Windows. Updates that
fail are:
- KB941644
- KB943411
- KB905866
- KB943899
- KB943302

Thanks for your guidance.

Meinolf:

Windows Update error 80070643. I tried following the KB article to update
the settings for the OSE from Manual to Automatic Delayed. Still fails.
Disabled my Norton Firewall too. Still fails.

Thanks
Nick

I had the same problem. For me, it was update KB943302 that was blocking the
install of the other updates. When I hid KB943302, the others downloaded and
installed without problems. Then I went to the download for KB943302 at the
following link and manually installed it without problem.

Hello Nick,

Do you use COMODO? Read some articles about update problems with it. If you
have it uninstall it and run again.

Hi Meinolf: I do not use Comodo, but Norton 2008. I tried both updating
Norton for a fix (no updates available) or disabling it, same result. I'll
try the other recommendation on installing a few patches at a time.

The culprit is KB943411. I was able to install the other updates one by one
by downloading them. But the above will just fail to install no matter what I
do. It's a bug in this Vista update, unless I'm shown otherwise.
