IzArc uses 99% of my CPU

M

Mike Campbell

I just started using IzArc with version 3.3 so I don't know if this is
an old bug or a new 3.4 bug.

Whenever I open a zip file with IzArc and then view one of the files
from the zip file by double clicking on it (such as a text file or a MS
word document) my CPU usage shoots to 99%. Using win2k task manager I
can see the IzArc is the problem as it is using 98-99% of the CPU.

If I close out of the viewing program (notepad, MS word, etc...) but
leave IzArc running then my CPU usage drops back down to normal levels.

Anyone else seeing a similar problem?

Thanks,
Mike Campbell

Hmmm, same here with Win2K + IzArc 3.4. The search for a decent WinZip
clone goes on....

No such problem with win98se. CPU usage is barely perceptible. I
tried this on several files at the same time with IZArc 3.4.

I have a hard time believing people sometimes. The programer would love
you to make a quick e-mail with what you have found. This person put out
a product that you found a " bug " in and you just abandon it?

"The search for a decent WinZip clone goes on...." PLEASE!!!!!

Take a little time, send an e-mail. The programmer gets to correct his
mistake and you end up with not only a better product, but the
realization that you have helped in the development of their product.
Why not at the same time give a little thank you or show some
appreciation for the product?

I did in fact email the programmer at the same time I posted this
question here. I've yet to hear from him but I wanted to see if this was
a problem with my system or if anyone else was seeing the same thing.

Hopefully it will be addressed by the programmer in the near future.

Yep, same problem here running XP. And I just switched to IzArc about a
week ago...:(.

I'm using IZArk 3.3.1 with Win2k and yes, the CPU will spike when the
IZArk opens and when the viewer opens. However, when the document is
loaded, the usage drops back to normal for me.

On XP Home I've experienced a heavy CPU load at one point using IZArc.
It wasn't just a spike. It lasted several seconds maybe even a
minute.
