IZArc flaw.

This morning I attempted to use IZArc to open a multipart RAR file.
The program decompressed the file (an oooolld music video clip in .mpg
format), but when I tried to run the file, I got an error message
saying something about an invalid part 1 (should have written down the
error message, but it's too late now.)
To make sure that the MP RAR wasn't corrupt, I downloaded and
installed Winrar (for comparison purposes only, since it's
time-limited shareware that I don't recommend.) Winrar was able to
extract the .mpg file successfully and when I played the file, it ran
perfectly.

With an earlier version of IZArc I was unable to successfully make an
self extracting executable out of a .zip file. I'm not sure if this
same problem exists in the current release though. However, I also
have experienced the IZArc installation problems mentioned by others
in this group.

On the basis of these incidents, I withdraw my personal recommendation
for IZArc. It has potential, but is too buggy to remain on my system.
I've removed it at this point. YMMV.

Can anybody recommend a good freeware program that they use for
opening multipart RAR files?

Have you tried PowerArchiver v 6.11 (the last true Freeware version). It
will decompress RAR files but I do not know whether it does multipart RAR
files. Give it a try and see what happens.

I have been using PowerArchiver for quite some time now. It has never
crashed. No bugs from what I can see.

Another one you might try is 7-Zip at http://www.7-zip.org/. I have not
tried it but I have heard great things about it.

Try to make bug report to the author of the program.
By this way, you can help author to correct his/her program.

Any chance you could include part of the prior message in the future?
It's easier to follow the conversation that way.

Thanks a lot. :)

Good point, but when I try to find the home page for the program with
an email address, there is only mirrors with download links. I've
uninstalled the program at this point, so finding the author's email
address would mean reinstalling the program. Still, I'll try to give
it a go...

Thanks Rob (and for your the PowerArchiver recommendation as well).
It's been a while since I've tried that one. At one point, I'd tried
every single freeware archiver I could find. I'll take a look at it.
