I am planning to build an itx based PC

Anyone got any horror stories, advice, experiences; especially to do with
heat problems.

Thanks.

Heat is relative to what you put in it, and how long you
want/expect it to last. Choose one with airflow appropriate for
parts inside, and that allows power supply also adequate for
those parts. Via CPU based system is pretty easy to put into an
ITX, Celeron Tualatin or older Socket 370 isn't bad either, but
if you want faster than that you'll have to scrutinize the
airflow and power more carefully... sometimes more vents or fans
can be added but you may not be able to do much about an
insufficient power supply except put a brick outside the box.
