ITunes + QuickTime is installed on my XP system. Do I have any reason to
keep it? I DO NOT play games and I DO NOT listen to MP3, et. al.

Why do I need either one of them?

Thanks for the help..

If you don't do any of those things, why did you install it in the
first place?

Quicktime is use to view certain Apple format video clips that Windows
doesn't support out of the box.

If you don't use iTunes or Quicktime, get rid of it. If you find you
need it later, re-install it then.

If you have no interest in buying stuff from iTunes, then you don't
need it. Quicktime plays *.mp4 and *.mov video files, which Windows
Media Player will not. If you never meet one of those, you won't need
Quicktime. If you do want to see one some time, you will need it.

I would remove Quicktime and install Videolan for playing all your
video/audio files (if that ever becomes necessary). It's much more
benign than any other of the common players and plays virtually all
common formats.

Thanks for the response.

Why did I install it in the first place, I was asked!! Good question. Most
likely it came with something else and I really didn't kmow what it was.

Thanks again..

Unless Media Player Classic, or Zoom Player, or one of the other AV programs
will do it. Just having Windows Media Player is a bit limiting. :-)

But the ones above might need Quicktime installed to be able to play .mov
files (not sure); I seriously doubt they would need QT to be able to play
mp4 files, however).

I've still got an OLD version of QT (ver 5) installed. (the newer ones are
bloatware, as is true for so many of the latest program incarnations)

I've been using VideoLan's "VLC Media Player" for a year or so
and it's played everything I've thrown at it so far - as opposed
to "CorePlayer" which I paid something like thirty bucks for and
which doesn't do .MPG.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you own an iPod from Apple, you need
iTunes to manage it and to load your songs into it, even if you don't buy
music from iTunes store.

Doum,

If you like music and listen regularly to your iPod and own a lot of
music in your computer, even if you don´t buy music from iTunes, you
need iTunes. But, if you don't like music very much, then you don´t
need neither the Ipod nor iTunes. Just turn on your radio and you´ll be
happy.

Cheers

Actually, if you want to simply manage the IPOD without using the ITunes
store, there are other applications that will do it.

Google and ye shall find.

There are other products that will do that.

I'm not in love with iTunes, I've tried a few of the other
products and always come back to iTunes.
