Sound Blaster X-fi or Vista . One has to go.

Vista is now not even detecting the card ( no audio output device is
installed ) . Worked great for a while then just stopped again ( yes, it
has happened before ).


Now if I go back to XP I know that eveything will work except for the
Soundcard which I only installed after Vista. So do I put Vista away until
next year when I upgrade to a new mobo that has good onboard sound that
works with Vista

And I would love to send a message to Creative Labs but I dont want to be
arrested for obsentities etc.

I chose to lose SB. Best decision I've ever made. They have always had bad
driver support (and it's worse now) and I'll necer have to deal with them
again. Makes me happy.

Creative used to make fantastic sound cards. My original 386 had a
Sound Blaster Pro, and I've also used Sound Blaster 16 and Sound Blaster
Live! on other machines.

But lately it seems as though they've gone the same way in product
support that HP has gone with their printers. It's non-existant.

My advice to you would be (if you current mobo doesn't have onboard
sound) is to purchase a cheapy sound card that you can use instead with
Vista until such time as you can get the new modo that you want. ASUS
make great motherboards, and use the RealTek sound chips. Great stuff.

I use the computer for listening to music and thats why I was so pissed off.
Anyway, after turning it back off and back on a couple of times the sound
has reappeared

The reason I went sound blaster is that the relteak onboard sound is
garbage.

Anyway will see what happens ......

I've not had any problems with my Creative Audigy 2 ZS on Vista, and the
drivers are nine months old

As soon as Creative's sound cards and support started going downhill fast
(right around after LIVE! 5.1 cards were released) TurtleBeach cards were
suggested as an alternative.

I've been using TurtleBeach products ever sense... The sound quality
compared to My audigy2 ZS and my x-fi is awesome. Especially because I could
NEVER get a Creative card to work well in Vista, and often had problems in XP
(scratchy/popping sound, ambiguous channels, etc.)

Try them out... their products aren't ridiculously overpriced, either.

well the sound is awesome with my card when it works.

and yes it has stopped working again

well its back to XP this weekend when I get some spare time up my sleeve

its the cost effective solution
