My sister dropped her notebook off this morning and asked me to fix it.

Once it's booted up, it keeps displaying Spybot warnings telling me that a
registry change has been denied, and that the cause of teh change is
something called ITBarLayout.

Now... It seems that this ITBarLayout is trying to do something whenever
WinXP starts. I've removed all references to it from the registry, but that
didn't make a difference.

So... What is ITBarLayout, and how do you get rid of it?

Your sister has Spybot's immunization enabled. Your sister's laptop has
malware. Go through these removal steps systematically:

Do the preparatory work first. When you get into Safe Mode to start the
work, disable Spybot's immunization so changes can be made to the
registry, etc.
