At boot up a 3x7 gray border box that is black within with what looks like a
volume control appears and will not go away. If you click Start Log Off the
color goes to black and white and doesn't shut off. ou can shut down via the
Task Manager. During boot up the volume slide goes from 80 to 0.

Does anybody have infomation on this? I am I the only one?

Does it happen if you go into Safe Mode? If not then try clean boot
troubleshooting to pinpoint the offending app/service.
